## Organisation Overview

YARD (Youth Action for Rural Development) is a community-based organisation (CBO) founded and led by young people in Muranga County, Kenya. We operate in Gatanga Sub-County, focusing on the intersection of agriculture, education, and social empowerment.

## Mission

To empower rural communities through youth-driven action, sustainable agriculture, and community development programmes that improve livelihoods and foster resilience among smallholder farmers and vulnerable populations.

## Core Programmes

### YARD Field Academy
Hands-on farmer training delivered through Farmer Field Schools (FFS). The academy covers agroecology and sustainable farming practices including:
- Soil & Water Conservation
- Soil Fertility Management
- Seed Management and Seed Systems
- Integrated Land Use Design
- Diversification of Farm Enterprises
- Crop Pest & Disease Management
- Livestock Production & Management

### Active Projects
- **KCDF Banana Value Chain Project** — Post-harvest handling, processing, and market linkages for banana farmers
- **Girls & Women Center Maruge** — Agribusiness training, financial literacy, and leadership programmes
- **Education Outreach Programme** — Bursaries and school support for vulnerable children
- **PELCA Coffee Programme** — Supporting coffee farmers with improved practices and market access

### GLS/BMZ Agricultural Training
International-standard agricultural development through German development cooperation frameworks.
